The other day I made a Tweet and an update on Facebook about an interesting article I read in the Daily Monitor written by Richard Branson; ‘In Africa ‘yes we can’ is the way to go’ . My Tweet went something like this: ‘If we could just get Branson’s ear for 10 minutes…’
I got good response to my Tweet/update so I have decided to post about it here on the blog as well (yes, I am back on the blog and I look forward to talk to you here a couple of times per week – mainly focusing on what is ‘out there’ of interesting stuff that can be related to development, Africa, Social Innovation, Microfinance, P2P, MYC4, etc.).
It would really mean the world to get Branson’s ear for 10 minutes:
– because he has gained a lot of experience with financial services (Virgin Money)
– because he has a big heart for Africa
– because he is extremely good at spotting business opportunities
– because he goes all the way
– because he can create global attention over a cup of coffee and and and…
The latter ‘because’ is, in my eyes, one of the most important objectives to get Africa (and the developing world in general) to stand on its own two feet – a person with Branson’s caliber lead the way and you and me will follow either directly by investing in Africa or by buying the products/services that will come out of the investments (vegetables, music, art, etc.).
The strategy is, of course, not just to get 10 minutes with him, but to get 10 minutes to catch his full attention and then open the box and show him how far we have come with MYC4 and what could be done if he gave us a hand at this stage! So, if you know Branson, don’t tell him about my sneaking strategy to catch his full attention, just let him know that we are out there to talk to him and please make the connection… mostly appreciated!
At the end of the Monitor article, people are encouraged to write to him – both Mads (my Co-founder) and Peter Schmidt (an Investor who have followed us for some years) wrote to Branson. You could also write to him at: RichardBranson@nytimes.com – let me know if you go ahead and do it.
I am working on additional options to talk to Branson – to be honest I don’t expect my first blog post to seal the deal with him, but please prove me wrong about the power of social media!
GREATings from sunny Copenhagen,
P.S. Heavily inspired by my Social Media Mentor; Henriette Weber a new concept is hereby born: I will now and then blog under the theme: ‘If I could only get 10 minutes with XXXX it would mean the world because YYYY’.
So if you find an interesting person or organization then please shoot me a mail or reply to a post and I will look at it.
In general, please send me articles, links, contacts, blogs, forums, etc. that you believe can help us develop…
