I’m sitting in the Nairobi airport waiting for my flight home. It was a great week and we agreed to move forward with several new partnerships while I was down here. I’ll post more details as the partnerships develop in the coming weeks, but here are a few of the highlights.
We signed a cooperation agreement with Heart for the City and Ushindi Mobile money. More on this in a separate post, so stay tuned.
We completed due diligence with KREP Development Agency and their subsidiary Makao Mashinani Limited on a project to fund low cost housing for people moving out of the slums. The project is together with Akiba Mashinaini Trust and Slum Dwellers International. We expect to sign the final agreements by the end of the year. I’ll also post more details and pictures soon.
We initiated a pilot to fund small clinics and pharmacies in Kenya. More details on this and the people involved early next year as the pilot gets going.
We are re-launching the online business signup in Kenya with a joint marketing campaign together with our partner Fusion Capital next week.
We met with our current partners in Nairobi, and they are all performing well and have ambitious plans for next year.
So while 2010 was a year of fixing the business model we are looking forward to 2011 being a year of careful growth.
