When I bike home from work I cross a bridge over Copenhagen’s harbor… and there on the left, you have the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DANIDA).
There is no news in the yellow brick building standing there, it has done that for years, but please take a look at the enormous posters hanging on the end wall. It is news from “The world’s best news” (only in Danish – below is a translation of the three poster messages).
“Fight against poverty bears fruit”
“84% of all in developing countries have gained access to clean water”
“900,000 people in Burkina Faso now has clean water – with support from Denmark”
The world’s best news is a campaign that aims to give Tom, Dick and Harry an understable overview of the actual results that development aid is obtaining and to ensure that the steam is kept up in order to reach the UN 2015 Millinnium Development Goals. DANIDA is coordinating the campaign which is a unique collaboration with 70 Danish NGOs participating – large as well as small! More than 50 Danish companies are helping to get the message across to you.
I really like this approach of focusing on things that ARE happening instead of focusing on things that are not taking place, which is often the angle from diverse media (probably because it sells more newspapers?). I am not saying that you should just turn the blind eye to things not happening and then the problem is not there – a healthy combination is my recipe! Do you have a campaign like this where you live… let me know.
Yesterday morning Mads reminded me that we must communicate about what all you investors ACTUALLY fund via MYC4, because it is not just one single borrower that you impact with the money you lend to them…
MYC4 is based on the firm outset that business is the key to trigger unrealized potential in Africa, to speed up economic growth and social development and thereby ultimately eradicate poverty and related issues. By giving access to capital, African businesses will be able to develop their businesses, create growth and increase their income. They will be able to send their kids to school and to the doctor; they will be able to employ more people, who will send their kids to school and so on. Withholding tax is applied to investors and MYC4 earnings, which can be used to develop the country (build schools, roads, hospitals, etc).
In other words, prosperity permeates through the lives of entrepreneurs, their families, employees and local community… dependencies truly hold an important scaling factor in the entire MYC4 ‘eco system’!!
