MYC4 was in the final of BBC World Challenge 2010, but didn’t make it all the way to the top of the podium… the good thing is that BBC now has developed the Down to Business concept which is a hands-on way to help businesses with a social purpose succeed.
The mission with Down to Business is to provide professional, practical help for small and medium sized enterprises throughout the world, with a special emphasis on turning sustainable ideas from niche businesses into mainstream enterprises.
Only 4 businesses have been elected to participate in Down to Business, and yes, MYC4 is one of them!!
Ultimo July, MYC4 had the honour of having Leo Johnson (Partner & Sustainable Business Expert at PwC) coming by us to give his perspective and advice as to make MYC4 skyrocket. The visit formed part one of the World Challenge: Down to Business program, which was aired on BBC World News this weekend – if you missed it, you can watch it here.
You can also read Leo’s blog post on his visit to Copenhagen here. Amongst other, Leo writes: “But the beauty of MyC4 is the ‘blended return’. I’m not just getting a financial return. I’m getting a social return too, and that in theory reduces my need for a high interest rate.” Nice two liner, but reading his post you will experience that Leo has nailed what challenges MYC4 are faced with, such as; usability of website, currency exposure and presenting social impact data to investors.
October 24, Mads and I will go to London to pitch for funds in front of investors who are interested in putting real money into in social enterprises and sustainable businesses like MYC4. This event will also be filmed and will be broadcasted on November 12 on BBC World News…. more to come on this front after the pitch!
