Last week MYC4 participated in a school project at Holbæk Little School which is, as the name suggests, a small school with around 270 students, located approximately one hour from Copenhagen. The school has implemented a project week every third year to raise money for a greater cause – and this year they chose to lend the raised capital to African entrepreneurs through MYC4.
The main objective with this school project was to give the students from 8th to 10th class, who are in the age of 14-16 years old, the opportunity to contribute to help others who are less fortunate, meanwhile learning to work together to achieve a shared goal. We visited the school on the first day of the project to inform the students about MYC4, and motivate them to have a good week in the MYC4 spirit. The students had a good understanding of MYC4 and understood the core in our business model, and they could see how it is important to invest in African entrepreneurs to help Africa develop into a sustainable continent.
After the short brief about MYC4, the students were divided into groups and mixed between classes. In these groups they had to raise capital over a three day period. The money was raised in various ways; some groups worked at companies in the neighborhood, others organized the event that would end this three day project in a final school party. The event contained school bands and small stalls selling everything from food and beverages to paintings and experiences – and of course two boys who made an auction of themselves for a romantic dinner!
The students had gumption from day one to raise as much money as possible to be able to lend and at the same time help as many African entrepreneurs as possible.
Holbæk Little School achieved to gather DKK 32,000 (€4,300). The money will be lent out to African entrepreneurs through the MYC4 platform at a 0% interest rate. Furthermore, the teachers and students decided that the student council will be in charge of the MYC4 account and will decide which loans they wish to lend to.
MYC4 would like to thank Holbæk Little School for an awesome week in good company, and hope to see other schools go in the same direction.
